Crane wetlands on the Nen River where the Horqin grassland begins
About Baicheng
Baicheng, in the far north-west of Jilin against Inner Mongolia, lies where the Songnen Plain meets the Horqin grassland, a flat country of lakes, reed marsh and sand dunes. Its wetlands draw birdwatchers: Momoge, where the Nen and Tao'er rivers meet, is a stopover for migrating Siberian cranes, and Xianghai, a Ramsar site since 1992, is known for red-crowned cranes. At Da'an, Nenjiang Bay is a riverside park on a bend of the Nen, rated 5A in 2024.
