Yuxi 玉溪Yùxī
A deep, clear lake beside fossils from the dawn of animal life

About Yuxi
Yuxi, 90 km south of Kunming, is a tobacco city, home of the Hongta Group, set among the plateau lakes of central Yunnan. Its main draw is Fuxian Lake, the deepest lake in the province, with the hills at Chengjiang beside it, where fossils of some of the earliest complex animals form a World Heritage Site. Farther afield, temples climb Xiushan Hill above Tonghai, and Shimen Gorge cuts into the Ailao Mountains of Xinping.
