About Yaowang Temple, Anguo

The Medicine King Temple in Anguo, long known as northern China's herb-trading town, honours Pi Tong, a Han-dynasty general venerated as the god of medicine. Its origins are traced to the Eastern Han, and the present complex of about 3,200 square metres was laid out in the Yongle era (1403–24) around Pi Tong's tomb and extended in the Qing, with an archway, tomb pavilion, main hall, bell and drum towers and a hall of famous physicians. Temple fairs are traditionally held in spring and winter, peaking on the 28th day of the fourth lunar month and the 15th day of the tenth.
