About Baoding

Baoding, about 150 km south-west of Beijing, was the capital of Zhili province under the Qing, and the Viceroy of Zhili's Office still stands beside the Ancient Lotus Pond, a garden begun in the Jin dynasty. Four Qing emperors lie in the Western Qing Tombs, a World Heritage Site, and Dingzhou has the 84-metre Liaodi Pagoda of 1055. Reeds and lotus fill Baiyang Lake, in the Xiong'an New Area; Yesanpo's gorges and Baishi Mountain lie in the hills to the north.
