About Twin Pagodas of Chongxing Temple

Two octagonal, 13-storey solid brick pagodas stand 43 m apart in the north-east of Beizhen's old town, 44.46 m and 42.63 m high, with Buddha niches, guardian figures and flying figures carved in brick. Their style dates them to the late Liao dynasty, and they were repaired under the Yuan, Ming and Qing, with the east pagoda overhauled again in 1998. A Ming and Qing temple behind them gives them their name, and the provincial heritage page notes that Liao twin pagodas standing together are rare.
