About Southern Dynasties Tomb Sculptures, Danyang

Danyang holds the mausoleums of emperors of the Southern Qi and Liang dynasties, both of the Xiao clan, and about a dozen groups of 5th- and 6th-century stone guardians still stand in the fields east and north-east of the town. Most groups are pairs of winged beasts, qilin and tianlu at the imperial tombs, and at Sanchengxiang, where several mausoleums lie close together, the tomb of Xiao Shunzhi also keeps its carved columns and stele bases. The groups have been fenced since 2019, after one was damaged by illegal rubbing.
