About Mount Mogan
A bamboo-covered hill resort in western Deqing, about 60 km from Hangzhou, where foreign missionaries and merchants built summer villas from the 1890s and Chinese officials, businessmen and cultural figures followed in the 1920s and 1930s. Dozens of the villas are protected as a heritage group, among them Huang Fu's Baiyun Shanguan, scene of Nationalist–Communist talks in 1937, and Songyuelu, where the 1948 gold-yuan currency reform was decided; paths lead through the bamboo to Sword Pond and its waterfall and to viewpoints over the plain.
How to get to Mount Mogan
About 30–40 minutes by road west of Deqing station, which has high-speed trains to Hangzhou and Shanghai.
