About Tomb of the Sultan of Sulu
In 1417 the Eastern King of Sulu, from an old Southeast Asian kingdom in what is now the Philippines, led a delegation of about 340 people to the Ming court and died at Dezhou on the way home, where he was buried; his wife and two sons were later laid beside him. The tomb, in Beiying village on the northern edge of Dezhou, is described by the Decheng district government as the only intact tomb of a foreign king in China with descendants still guarding it; they are now in the twenty-second generation. A museum beside it, a national second-class museum since 2024, presents the history.
