About Dezhou

Dezhou is a canal and railway town in Shandong's flat north-west, and its braised chicken, a national intangible-heritage craft, spread along the railway lines as station food. The Tomb of the Sultan of Sulu holds a ruler of Sulu, in today's Philippines, who died here in 1417 on his way home from the Ming court; his descendants still tend it. Elsewhere in the prefecture are the Thousand-Year Jujube Forest and Ningjin, whose acrobatics tradition is on China's national intangible heritage list.
