About Dingzhou Examination Hall
The Dingzhou Examination Hall, begun in 1738 and enlarged in 1834, is described as the most complete surviving imperial examination compound in northern China. It has a long screen wall where results were posted, the Kuige hall of examination cells where candidates sat, and the two-storey Lansheng Tower where examiners lived and worked. Old locust trees in the grounds are traditionally said to have been planted by the Qianlong Emperor.
