About Baifo Mountain and Grottoes
A 370 m hill on the western side of Dongping, the county seat, whose cliff grottoes are centred on a Shakyamuni statue about 6.7 m high, carved in 587 in the Sui dynasty and protected as a national unit. The hill also has the Sanjiao (Three Teachings) Temple, with Buddhist, Confucian and Daoist figures, two caves called Black Cloud and White Cloud, and a landscaped park and lotus-sculpture plaza within a scenic area of about 10 square kilometres. The county rebuilt the scenic area from 2023 with a hotel and seasonal events such as an autumn chrysanthemum show, and locals traditionally climb the hill for a temple fair on the second day of the second lunar month.
