About Fushun War Criminals Management Centre
Built by the Japanese authorities in 1936 as a prison, the site was turned in 1950 into a detention and re-education centre for Japanese war-crimes suspects, officials of the Manchukuo regime including the last Qing emperor Puyi, and captured Nationalist officers. The preserved prison now houses an exhibition on the detention of the Japanese prisoners, a separate display on Puyi's years there, and the original cells and facilities, all presenting the Chinese account of the period. The Japanese prisoners were released between 1956 and 1964, and the other detainees were amnestied between 1959 and 1975.
