About Fushun

Fushun, on the Hun River east of Shenyang, grew up as a coal city around the vast West Open Mine, while its eastern hills were the homeland of the Qing founders: at Hetu Ala, Nurhaci proclaimed himself khan in 1616, and nearby Yongling, one of the UNESCO-listed imperial tombs, holds his forebears. The Fushun War Criminals Management Centre, where the last emperor Puyi was held in the 1950s, and the Pingdingshan Massacre Memorial Hall cover the Japanese occupation and its aftermath.
