About Fenghuangling
A scenic area of about 9.7 km² of rocky hills in north-west Haidian, named after a huge 'Fenghuangling' inscription carved on a cliff and nicknamed the 'Little Huangshan of western Beijing'. Three hiking routes follow the valleys past cave shrines carved in the Liao and Jin periods, the Daoist Taoyuan Temple, a 53-step 'Heavenly Ladder' cut almost vertically into the rock, and Longquan Temple, an active Buddhist monastery at the foot of the hills.
