About Huangyao Ancient Town
A market town ringed by karst hills in Zhaoping County, founded in the Song dynasty, built up in the late Ming and at its most prosperous under the Qing Qianlong emperor, and named after its two main clans, the Huangs and the Yaos. More than 300 Ming and Qing houses of grey brick and dark tile line its flagstone lanes, with ancestral halls, temples, an old opera stage, wells, small bridges with pavilions over the stream, and old banyan trees, and the town has served as a set for many films and TV dramas. In 1945 the Communist Party's Guangxi provincial working committee moved its offices here, and the buildings around Baozhu Temple are now a memorial museum.
