About Huai'an Prefectural Yamen
The seat of Huai'an Prefecture from 1370 until prefectures were abolished in 1913, on the old town's central axis north of the Governor-General of Grain Transport's office and the Zhenhuai Tower. Its great hall, seven bays and 26 by 18.5 m, was rebuilt after an 1861 fire with timber from a Hexia salt merchant's mansion, and it survived with the second hall through later use as a factory. Restored and opened in 2007 over some 12,000 m², it is described by the provincial tourism department as the only surviving Ming–Qing prefectural yamen along the Grand Canal.
