About Wentong Pagoda
An octagonal seven-storey brick pagoda, 23 m tall with yellow walls and dark eaves, in Shaohu Park in the north-west corner of Huai'an's old city beside the canal. It was founded in 708 as the 13-storey Zunsheng Pagoda, renamed after the neighbouring Wentong Temple when rebuilt in 1629, and cut down to two storeys by the Tancheng earthquake of 1668, after which it was rebuilt with only seven; the national heritage list dates the present structure to the Song. The lakeside park makes a pleasant stop between the old town and Hexia.
