About Huaying Mountain

Huaying Mountain is a long ridge on the eastern side of the Sichuan Basin, dividing the central Sichuan hills from the parallel ridges further east, and the scenic area above Huaying city is promoted for its stone forest, caves and forest walks. Baoding peak (1,586 m) on the same range has been a Buddhist pilgrimage site since the Tang dynasty. In the late 1940s the mountains sheltered the eastern Sichuan Communist guerrillas whose uprising lies behind characters in the novel Red Crag.
