About Foziling Reservoir

Foziling Reservoir on the upper East Pi River was built between 1952 and 1954 as the first large water-conservancy and hydropower project of the People's Republic, and is officially called the 'first dam of New China'. Its 74.4 m reinforced-concrete multiple-arch dam, designed by the hydraulic engineer Wang Huzhen, was the first of its kind in China and is now a national heritage site. The scenic area around the lake includes hill outlines known as the 'Reclining Buddha' and 'Sleeping Beauty', a resort and rafting on the East Pi River.
