About Former Jiangyin Fortress Headquarters
A Chinese-Western house built in 1917 by the Jiangyin industrialist Wu Tinglu, with a brick screen wall and garden in front of two Chinese-style halls and a two-storey Western-style villa at the back. Occupied by the Japanese army from 1937, it became the headquarters of the Nationalist Jiangyin Fortress in 1947, whose garrison went over to the People's Liberation Army in April 1949 during the Yangtze crossing campaign. It remained in military use until 2003 and opened in 2007 as an exhibition hall on Jiangyin's history and notable people.
