About Guangyou Temple and White Pagoda, Liaoyang

The White Pagoda is an eight-sided brick pagoda with thirteen tiers of eaves, 70.4 m high, which the provincial heritage department calls the tallest ancient pagoda in Liaoning and which is usually dated to the middle or late Liao period. It stands in Baita Park beside the rebuilt Guangyou Temple, which tradition dates to the Eastern Han; the temple was burned down in 1900 and rebuilt in 2002–04 in Liao-influenced style around a large main hall and a gilded camphor-wood seated Buddha. The pagoda and temple were once one complex, and Baita District is named after the pagoda.
