Taipa's only Catholic church (Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo), built in 1885 on a rise above Largo do Carmo, with a neoclassical façade and a belfry without a steeple. The hall holds more than two hundred worshippers, and angel statues beside the altar were added for the church's centenary. It overlooks Taipa Village and the restored 1920s houses on Avenida da Praia.
