About St. Dominic's Church

A church (Igreja de São Domingos) founded in 1587 by three Spanish Dominican priests who had come from Acapulco in Mexico; it was first built of wood, which gave it the Chinese name Pan Cheong Tong, 'Church of Wooden Planks'. It has a basilican plan with Baroque influences in its interior decoration, the Dominican insignia on the pediment of its façade, and a three-storey bell tower beside the sacristy that holds a small museum of sacred art. Our Lady of Fatima has been honoured here since 1929, and a procession leaves the church every year on 13 May.
