About Jietai Temple

A large Buddhist temple on the slopes of Ma'an Mountain in the Western Hills, known for its ordination altar, counted among the three great ordination platforms of Chinese Buddhism. The altar hall was first built under the Liao in 1069 and houses a three-tiered stone altar of the Ming; the courtyards are famous for old pines with names such as the 'Moving Pine', and Prince Gong lived here for about ten years after he was dismissed from office in 1884.
