About South Mountain Botanical Garden

A large botanical garden on the wooded crest of Nanshan above the south bank of the Yangtze, with themed gardens for roses, camellias, plum blossom and orchids and a garden of rare and endangered plants; its camellia collection is recognised as an International Camellia Garden of Excellence. Within the camellia garden stand villas that housed the French embassy, the Indian commissioner's office and part of the Soviet embassy when Chongqing was China's wartime capital. A giant golden eagle statue on the ridge is a local landmark.
