About Tomb of the King of Boni

The tomb of Maharaja Karna (Abdul Majid Hassan), ruler of Boni, a state on Borneo sometimes considered a forerunner of modern Brunei, who came to the Ming court in Nanjing in 1408 and died there that autumn at the age of 28. The Yongle Emperor had him buried with honours south of the city, and a spirit way lined with stone warriors, grooms, horses, tigers and rams leads to the grave mound; a small exhibition room was added in the early 2000s. Forgotten after the Ming, the tomb was rediscovered in 1958 and is one of only two tombs of foreign rulers in China.
