About Mochou Lake Park

A lake park in western Nanjing, west of the Qinhuai River and Hanzhongmen, laid out around Mochou Lake, which takes its name from Mochou, a virtuous young woman of local legend. Halls, pavilions and covered walkways stand among rockeries and trees on the shore, among them the two-storey Shengqi Pavilion, the Yujin Hall and a white marble statue of Mochou beside a lotus pool. By tradition the Ming founder Zhu Yuanzhang gave the lakeside garden to his general Xu Da, and in summer boats can be taken out among the lotus.
