About Qiantong Ancient Town

An old clan town in the hills of south-west Ninghai, founded when the Tong family settled here in 1233; about eight in ten residents still bear the surname. Lanes of Ming and Qing houses are laced with small channels fed by the Baixi and Lianghuang streams, and the Tong ancestral hall dates from 1385. It makes an unhurried half-day of old courtyards, stone bridges and village life.
