About Shawan Ancient Town

Shawan is a Pearl River Delta town founded in the Song dynasty, whose old lanes and ancestral halls form a historic quarter known as a birthplace of Guangdong music and of ginger milk curd, a local dessert. Its centrepiece is Liugeng Hall, the ancestral hall of the He clan, founded in 1335 and rebuilt on a grand scale from 1698, with five courtyards of fine Lingnan stone, wood and brick carving.
