About Gaofeng Mountain

A hilltop Taoist complex 25 km north of Pengxi, first built in the Tang dynasty and by the late Ming and early Qing regarded as the largest Taoist centre in central, eastern and northern Sichuan, where Confucian and Buddhist worship were also practised. Its surviving temples date mostly from the late Qing and early Republican era, and on the mid-slope a group of buildings is laid out as an eight-trigram (bagua) maze with four gates. A fire in May 2017 destroyed the Sanqing Hall and damaged neighbouring halls, but the maze was not affected.
