About Mulan Weir
An irrigation weir across the Mulan River below Mulan Hill, completed in 1083 by Li Hong after two earlier attempts, the first led by a woman named Qian Siniang in 1064, were swept away. The 219 m barrage of interlocking granite blocks has 32 sluice openings between its piers, blocks the tide coming up from Xinghua Bay and feeds a network of canals; in 2014 it was among the first World Heritage Irrigation Structures. A park and memorial hall stand beside it.
