About Yuanmiao Temple
Yuanmiao Guan in the old centre of Putian is a Taoist temple founded in 628 and rebuilt in 1015, whose Hall of the Three Purities is one of the rare Song-dynasty timber halls in southern China. The seven-bay hall rests on 20 stone columns under a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof, with Song-style bracket sets and lotus column bases. Qing halls to the Eastern and Western Peaks and other gods stand alongside, with steles including one in the calligraphy of Emperor Huizong.
