About Luoyang Bridge

A stone beam bridge across the tidal mouth of the Luoyang River, built in 1053–1059 under the prefect Cai Xiang, whose builders strengthened its foundations by cultivating oysters on the stones. It now runs about 730 m by way of a mid-river islet, lined with Song guardian figures, small stone pagodas and inscribed stelae, and a memorial temple to Cai Xiang stands near its southern end. It is one of the components of the Quanzhou World Heritage site.
