About Ramoche Temple
A 7th-century temple in Lhasa's old town, traditionally said to have been founded by Princess Wencheng and regarded as the city's most important temple after the Jokhang. It houses the Jowo Mikyo Dorje, a statue of the Buddha associated with the Nepalese queen Bhrikuti. Fire destroyed the original building; the present three-storey temple goes back to a rebuilding of 1474 and was restored from 1986 after being gutted in 1959.
