About Guo State Museum

A museum built over the cemetery of the Western Zhou state of Guo on Shangcunling in northern Sanmenxia, where hundreds of burials, chariot pits and sacrificial pits were excavated from 1956 onwards. Its galleries show bronzes and jades from the tombs of the Guo rulers Guo Ji and Guo Zhong, among them a jade-handled iron sword, and visitors can walk into the excavated pits where real chariots and horses were buried some 2,800 years ago.
