About Fangta Park (Square Pagoda)

A park laid out from 1978 by the architect Feng Jizhong around the Square Pagoda, a nine-storey brick-and-timber pagoda built under the Northern Song in the late 11th century and the only survivor of the Xingshengjiao Temple. Around it stand a carved brick screen wall of 1370 from the old prefectural City God Temple, the Tianfei Palace moved here from Henan Road in the late 1970s, a Ming hall, and Feng's bamboo-and-thatch pavilion He Lou Xuan, whose restoration won a UNESCO Asia-Pacific heritage award in 2024.
