About Zuibaichi Garden

One of Shanghai's five classical gardens, rebuilt in the mid-17th century by Gu Dashen, who named it 'Drunken Bai Pond' in homage to the Tang poet Bai Juyi. The pond, halls and corridors keep their Qing layout, and two of its stone carvings survived the Cultural Revolution because staff disguised them as propaganda boards; a larger public park was added around it in 1959.
