About Twin Pagodas (Luohan Temple)

A matching pair of seven-storey, eight-sided brick pagodas built in 982 under the Northern Song by Wang Wenhan and his brothers, the main survivors of the Luohan (later Dinghui) Temple. Their iron finials are unusually long for the size of the pagodas and are the earliest large iron finials known in China. Just north of the pagodas, the stone columns, column bases and carved fragments of the temple's main hall, burnt in 1860, are laid out as a ruin.
