About Shangchuan and Xiachuan Islands

The Chuandao resort covers Shangchuan and Xiachuan, the two main islands of the Chuanshan archipelago off Taishan, with granite hills and long sandy beaches such as Feisha Beach on Shangchuan's east coast and Wangfuzhou on Xiachuan. Shangchuan was an early Portuguese trading base in the 16th century, and a memorial chapel and tomb garden mark where the Jesuit missionary Francis Xavier died in 1552; the Taishan Maritime Silk Road Museum opened on the island in 2019.
