About Taizang Pagoda Ruins
Taizang Pagoda is the ruin of a large Buddhist temple-stupa from the Tang and Uyghur Qocho periods, a square mud-brick and rammed-earth mass that still rises in stepped tiers lined with niches, some with traces of paint. It stands on the plain below the Flaming Mountains a short distance from the Gaochang ruins and the Astana cemetery. The ruin was consolidated in 2009–2010 and fenced, with a gate and a small management building.
