About Weixian Internment Camp Site Museum
The site is an American Presbyterian mission compound founded in 1882, which the Japanese turned into an internment camp during the Second World War, holding more than 2,000 foreign civilians, including 327 children. Seven of the original buildings survive and house a museum with displays on the mission compound, the camp and the wider anti-fascist war, beside a peace park on the Yu River. Internees included the Olympic champion Eric Liddell, who died there in 1945.
