About Epang Palace

The site of the palace that Qin Shi Huang began in 212 BC and never finished: what survives is the rammed-earth platform of its front hall, more than 1 km long, about 400 m deep and 7–9 m high. Excavations since 2002 have found no trace of the fire said to have destroyed it, and a 2025 dig showed that it was raised over the bed of a former lake. The tree-covered terrace stands in an archaeological site park with lawns, paths and display boards, but there is no museum; the replica palace theme park built beside it in 2000 was demolished in 2013.
