About Han Chang'an City and Weiyang Palace Site
The site of Chang'an, capital of the Western Han dynasty, whose walled city of about 36 km² lies on the north-western edge of modern Xi'an. Its main palace, Weiyang Palace, first built in 200 BC, is now an open archaeological park where visitors walk over the great rammed-earth platform of the Front Hall and see the foundations of the empress's hall, archives and offices marked out on the ground. The palace site was inscribed in 2014 as part of the Silk Roads World Heritage site.
