About Xianghu Lake and Kuahuqiao Site Museum
A lake in Xiaoshan south of the Qiantang River, first dammed as an irrigation reservoir in 1112 and later largely filled in by brickworks, which was dredged and landscaped in stages between 2006 and 2016 as a lakeside park and resort area. On its south shore the Kuahuqiao Site Museum, opened in 2009, presents a Neolithic village of about 8,000 to 7,000 years ago, including a pine dugout canoe that is the oldest yet found in China, kept in a hall over the excavation.
