About Kaiyuan Temple, Xingtai

A Buddhist temple in the north-east corner of Xingtai's old city, known as the East Temple, which takes its name from the Kaiyuan era (713–741) of the Tang dynasty and became an imperial temple under the Yuan. The old western compound keeps Ming and Qing halls, a Tang pillar with sixteen faces carved with a Buddhist dharani text, a second dharani pillar of 915 and a Jin-dynasty iron bell cast in 1184, while a large new temple built after 2006 stands to the east. It pairs well with Qingfeng Tower, Tianning Temple and the Xingtai Museum a few hundred metres away.
