About Xuzhou Han Culture Scenic Area (Shizishan)
A park in Xuzhou's eastern suburbs built around Shizishan, where a Western Han king of Chu was buried in the 2nd century BC in a tomb cut 117 m into the hillside; visitors walk through its passages and a dozen rock-hewn chambers, found in 1991 and excavated in 1994–95. Nearby, the Han Terracotta Army Museum shows the four pits found in 1984 that held more than 2,300 painted pottery figures, and two further cavalry pits are displayed under water in a gallery opened in 2006. Tomb and pits belong to the national heritage unit of the Han Chu king tombs; many of the finds, including a gold-threaded jade suit, are in the Xuzhou Museum.
