About Yangshupu Waterworks

One of China's earliest modern waterworks, built for a British company in 1881–1883 and still supplying part of the city, with brick buildings and walls designed to look like an English castle, complete with battlements and mock turrets. It is a working plant, so visitors see the castle-like buildings from outside, best from the Yangpu Riverside promenade along the Huangpu; part of the site houses the Shanghai Waterworks Science and Technology Museum, reopened after renovation at the end of 2024.
