About Huangling Temple

A temple complex on the south bank of the Yangtze just below the Three Gorges Dam, dedicated to Yu the Great, the legendary tamer of the floods. Its main building, the five-bay Yu Wang Hall with a double-eaved roof, was rebuilt in 1618 and has carved timberwork and painted ceilings, and marks on its nanmu columns record the Yangtze floods of 1860 and 1870. The compound, about 2 hectares on a hillside, also has an opera stage and a shrine to Zhuge Liang.
