Songyuan 松原Sōngyuán
Nets hauled through the ice of Chagan Lake and a stele of the Jurchen Jin

About Songyuan
Songyuan lies on the Songnen Plain, where the Nen River joins the Songhua on its northern edge, and its best-known sight is Chagan Lake in Qian Gorlos Mongol Autonomous County, the largest natural lake in Jilin. From late December fishers cut holes through the ice and draw out nets more than a kilometre long with horse-turned capstans, a custom on China's national intangible heritage list. Near Desheng, a Jin-dynasty stele of 1185 marks where Wanyan Aguda rallied his troops against the Liao.
