About Kokdala
Kokdala, the city of the 4th Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (Bingtuan), was founded in 2015 on Ili valley farmland near Yining. It is known across China as the birthplace of 'Night on the Grassland', a serenade from a 1959 documentary filmed among the farms here. Its lavender park, with fields that flower in summer, a lavender science museum and a campground, is a popular stop on Ili valley road trips.
